The Shimeld Window

The Shimeld window, like the Clegg window, is created by E.R. Smith. Everything in it was laid down in Mr Shimeld’s will. He left sufficient money for the manufacture and installation of the window, and instructions for its design. He was a life-long member of St Michael’s Mission Church on Crossbank Street, and so wanted the figure of St Michael in the central panel of his window. On the right is St Christopher (after whom Mr Shimeld was named - Christopher Wesley Shimeld), the patron saint of travellers, who unknowingly carried the infant Christ across the river. In the other panel on the left is John the Baptist.
