Dear Friends
This year at Remembrance we give thanks not only for those who died or suffered in the World Wars but also for those who
have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am among those with doubts about the justice and wisdom of these present wars, but I have been challenged by the article of Charles Reed which follows my letter. Above all we must pray for members of the armed services in Afghanistan, their families, commanders and the Cabinet.
Last month Mrs Karin Whetham formally retired as our Parish Worker after a few years’service following very many years working together with her late husband George. It has been good that Karin continued to work with the support not only of our church but also that of the international mission agency Interserve. The best news is that, notwithstanding formal retirement, Karin will continue to serve in Word of Life, in Oldham Unity with people seeking asylum and teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Do continue to pray for Karin and to support her.
