Mission News, January 2012
Mission NewsAt St Thomas’ we follow the biblical principle of giving 10% of our income away. We support and have links with a number people and missions. These include The Children’s Society, Tearfund, Word of Life, CMS where our link missionary is Shelagh Wynne working with Friends of China in Thailand, Interserve where we have links with Karin Whetham in the UK, D and M W with K working in South East Asia and we pray for Jo and Denny Fleming working at the Christian Medical Hospital in Vellore, India. We also support the Children’s Uplift Programme in Bangladesh where Beth Jennings is working and Nathaniel and Donna Jennings with their children Micah and Tabitha working in Ireland with OMF. InterserveJo and Denny Fleming write from Vellore in India. Following our Christmas celebrations theirs seem mega, with departmental parties nearly every day from late November and a carol concert in 15 languages! Denny’s health is slowly improving. Although she has been able to work from home she is now going to her department for some of the day. She continues on medication, which she will need for at least 18 months. During her time at home Denny has enjoyed spending time with their neighbour’s children. Work in their departments has progressed with new machinery in both Denny and Joe’s labs. Denny’s measures among other things a drug used for immunosuppression which is helpful for people undergoing renal transplants. Joe’s measures metal concentrations, which enables them to look at environmental pollutants and toxins that people have taken in herbal medicines and teas. Both continue to be involved in the lives of students both past and present. They were able to enjoy the medical students’ retreat this year, despite Denny taking her daily injections and cooking her own food. Joe has attended a number of weddings They ask that we pray for:
