Bible Sunday (23 October) 2011
|
Laying on of hands, with or without anointing and prayer for healing of spirit, emotions and body are available in the South Transept (to the right of the pulpit) immediately after 10.30am Sunday Worship, on request to any of the following: Andrew or Biddy Dawson, Kathy or Graham Lees, Alf Wild or Barbara Duxbury. If possible ask someone other than Graham or Andrew, as they are the least likely to be available. The person you approach will ask another member of the Healing Team to join you both in the South Transept for ministry. The porch is open after inspection by a builder. He has removed a piece of masonry which, if it had fallen, could have injured someone. Discovering the problem on Friday 14th was too short notice to deal with the issue before last Sunday - apologies for inconvenience caused at that time. Now we wait for contractors to quote for our architect's plan to stop the continual water ingress. Werneth Partners and Community Together (PACT): all are welcome to talk about local issues with Ward Councillors, Police and others. Thursday 27 October, 6.30 to 8.30pm at Christ Church on Block Lane. Also note: Werneth Together Clean-up has been postponed until 7-14 November – details to follow. The Children’s Society in Oldham: Family Fun Day, organised by the Society’s five Children’s Centres in the Borough. Details on a flyer at the back. 10.30 to 3pm on Saturday 29 October, at Newman RC College, Vaughan Street, Royton, OL2 5DL. Requiem by Duruflé: Eucharist for the Faithful Departed, music by our Cathedral Choir. 5.30pm on Wednesday 2 November. The adult baptism by immersion of more of our Iranian friends will take place on Saturday 5 November, at Bethel Church on Waterloo Street. Please support them. Ignite is a celebration of Jesus in Oldham at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, supported by evangelical clergy including Andrew. Inspiring worship and encouraging testimonies. Preacher is Andy Hawthorne of the Message Trust. Free entry, voluntary offerings. Saturday 12 November, 7 to 9pm. Please sign on the clipboard. Do you need to make a will? A convenient way is available throughout November, as many solicitors all over the country, including in our borough, are joining Will Aid. A reduced fee applies, which will go to one of the UK’s nine best-loved charities. Full details, including the names of solicitors taking part, are at the back. You can also use this opportunity to make changes (codicils) to your existing will for a smaller fee. Near Neighbours is a new government fund offering grants to six cities and towns, including Oldham. These are for interfaith initiatives, either in dialogue or in practical action, or both, eg the Tudor Community Sports Group. The government will be monitoring the success or otherwise of this scheme by issuing a questionnaire to residents where grants are made. The first questionnaire is issued before any grants are made, to establish a baseline before grants make a difference (or not). Please complete it as best you can, and post it. It is anonymous. The Booth Centre has expressed its thanks for our Harvest contributions for homeless people by sending a certificate, which is now posted in the porch.
