Festival of St Michael & All Angels (25 for 29 September) 2011
|
Laying on of hands, with or without anointing and prayer for healing of spirit, emotions and body are available in the South Transept (to the right of the pulpit) immediately after 10.30am Sunday Worship, on request to any of the following: Andrew or Biddy Dawson, Kathy or Graham Lees, Alf Wild or Barbara Duxbury. If possible ask someone other than Graham or Andrew, as they are the least likely to be available. The person you approach will ask another member of the Healing Team to join you both in the South Transept for ministry. The arrangements have been changed because there are now two fewer members of the team.
OUR HARVEST THANKSGIVING IS NEXT SUNDAY - please invite family, friends, neighbours and colleagues (most feel easier at Harvest than at many acts of worship). Please help homeless people living in Greater Manchester by giving requested foods to the Booth Centre. The requested foods are: tinned corned beef and ham; tinned meat, potatoes and veg for stews; cook-in sauces for pasta; biscuits and cakes; tinned fruit, custard and rice pudding; and coffee, cup-a-soups and sugar. (A copy of the Booth Centre Annual report is available for borrowing at the back.) Please help people living elsewhere in the world through Tearfund. Read an example of their development work in Uganda in the September parish magazine. Buy a soup and bread lunch after worship on 2 October, and make a donation of extra cash. Please contribute to the Harvest Thanksgiving by giving towards the flowers – there is a dish at the back.
Most Oldhamers originating from Pakistan come from Mirpur district in the east of the country – see map at the west end of the north aisle, by the bookstall.
Stand-alone word processor available free – it may work!
St Thomas income not meeting running costs: copies of this article in the September magazine are beside the August magazine.
‘I love Laos’: a full-colour prayer guide for this south-east Asian country, for which we in St Thomas’ have a special concern. Copies at the back.
Metal thefts are increasing, in Oldham as elsewhere. It has been attempted at St Thomas, so far without success, but successfully at St Paul’s. This creates victims of crime throughout the borough, as well as income for drug-users, and makes life difficult for decent people who make a genuine living from scrap metal. If you see people going door-to-door for scrap metal, or removing it from roofs, ring the police on 872 5050.
Some asylum-seekers receive £35 per week from the Home Office. If they have been refused refugee status after appeal on their first claim, they receive nothing except £6.50 worth of food per week from Oldham Unity and a one-day bus ticket per week. If they have new evidence for a fresh claim, eventually they may receive food etc. worth £35 per week from the Home Office.
Word of Life Australia Prayer Letter for September – copies available at the back.
Beth Jennings Prayer Letter from Bangladesh – copies available at the back on green paper.
